What is Leap Year

Leap year is the year that has 366 days instead of 365.The extra day is added to February every four years to make the calendar year nearly the same as the solar year

The calendar we use is based on the amount of time it takes the sun.This takes about 365 1/4 days.

We can't have a quarter day in the calendar.For convenience,we ignore the extra one-fourth day for three years. After four years, the left-over time is added up to one full day.The extra day is february 29.(The year is not exactly equal to 365 1/4 days.
